Detox – Good or Bad

Detox – that is a topic that is talked about so much in today’s world, some say it is a good idea, others say that detoxing is not good – so which is it, and why should we detox?   I think detoxing with fresh fruits and veggies, healthy fats, and lean high quality meats as well as healthy supplements is a good idea.   If you purchase an over the counter detox from a store, pay attention to the ingredients – over the counter detoxes may not be the best idea, even though I have used them in the past.  The reason is that many times they are loaded with chemicals, and they will cleanse you, but not necessarily detox you. If you have thyroid or digestive issues, it is best that you start out eating lightly steamed veggies or roasted, rather than raw.   Also, remember to drink at least ½ your body weight in ounces of water. 

Here are some reasons to do a detox:

  1. Weight loss – Most people will lose weight on a detox.  Average weight loss is 4-6 pounds per week.  With many people losing more than that, I lost 7 pounds the first week on my detox.
  2. More energy – When you detox, you will rid your body of toxins and waste products, and your energy level will increase and stay constant throughout the day.
  3. Improved digestion – Many people do not realize that they have digestion problems, a detox will get rid of digestion problems such as bloating, acid reflux, IBS, etc.
  4. Sleeping better – Many people who have gone through a detox are generally more relaxed and balanced, and this leads to better sleeping habits.
  5. Allergies and rashes – Many allergies and rashes will go away after you go through the detox.
  6. Strengthen your immune system – The detox promotes and alkaline environment within you gut.   You will eat a large amount of antioxidants that will strengthen your immune system.
  7. Balance – The process of detoxifying your body will improve your general well being and give you a feeling of inner harmony.
  8. Better skin – Your skin will glow, acne will disappear, as well as other skin problems.
  9. Shiny hair – Your hair will be thicker, shinier and full of life.
  10. Long life – A diet rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and healthy fats strengthen the body’s organs.  Decreasing your intake of toxins such as coffee, drugs, additives, and pesticides will make you healthier.

I lost a lot of weight the first time I went through a detox with whole foods, and after I did the detox I felt amazing. I experienced all of the above benefits when I went through my first detox. I am going to be starting  a 2 week detox soon and I invite everyone to join me. Each participant will receive meal plans for the entire two weeks, recipes, supplements to support your body through the detox, as well as coaching sessions.
